Distribution of interplanetary medium parameters for different geomagnetic activity levels. 1. Strong geomagnetic storms

Empirical distribution of parameters of the solar wind and the interplanetary magnetic field, as well as distributions of the DCF magnetic field formed by currents at the boundary of the magnetosphere, and of the electric field Ey of the solar wind, were obtained using the data of King's catalogue for 29 strong geomagnetic storms of 1967-1982. Histograms, frequency distribution functions and statistical characteristics are discussed. The distributions are compared with confidence intervals for strong and very strong geomagnetic storms.
