There are currently no data on irradiation creep under fusion reactor conditions, However, a number of significant differences are expected between the irradiation environment of a fusion reactor and that of a fission reactor. These differences are expected to affect the characteristics of irradiation creep in the fusion reactor. Special conditions of importance are identified as the large number of defects produced per primary knock-on atom, high helium production rate, cyclic operation, unique stress histories, and low-temperature operation. Existing experimental data from fission reactors are analyzed to shed light on irradiation creep under fusion conditions. Theoretical considerations are used to deduce additional characteristics of irradiation creep.
