Mobil Oil Corp. 's study of equipment failures resulting in unit process penalities of 20,000 or more each indicates that 60% of equipment failures are preventable or reducible. A program of reliability maintenance is presented that reduces the number and the amount of process penalties resulting from equipment failures.
