Assembly automation and industrial robots

Up to the mid-80s, the focal point of industrial robot application was in the automobile industry. Relatively cost-intensive equipment is used here primarily as a substitute for rigid single purpose automation which under economical aspects is no longer supportable. Important areas of application are spot and seam welding as well as painting. New designs and a good price/performance ratio make the use of robots in assembly an increasingly interesting proposition.
