Equilibrium Composition of the Gaseous Phase in the B-P-Cl-Br-H System.

Using a variational method, a thermodynamic calculation is made of the equilibrium composition of the gaseous phase of the B-P-Cl-Br-H system in the temperature range from 1000 to 1800 degree K, in a range of BBr//3: PCl//3: H//2 ratios from 1:1:5 to 1:5:50, and at a pressure of 1 atm. The ranges of formation of boron phosphide and subphosphide are established, and their yields are calculated as a function of temperature and the excesses of phosphorus trichloride and hydrogen.
