This paper presents general problems of designing automatic control systems for engineering and production processes (ASC TP/PP) as well as the peculiarities of CAD in ASC TP/PP for iron and steel making. Studies made at the Dobra Iron-and-Steel-Research-Institute with a view to standardizing design are dealt with. Furthermore, information on an automatic design system for ASC TP/PP in metallurgy is given. Finally, current trends in design and implementation of automatic control systems are discussed.
