AMBIOPHONY, HAS ITS TIME FINALLY ARRIVED?

Ambiophony is defined as the modification of the acoustic properties of halls by electro-acoustic means. This modification can cover the wide range from improving the ratio of direct to reverberent sound, (which is a primary objective of most conventional sound reinforcing systems), to improving the diffuseness and increasing the reverberation time for musical performances or special effects. Some aspects of potential uses of this technology are explored and its application in a theater is described.
