Canalization for waste water, to be purified, of BASF terminates with a collecting channel. This channel flows without special extension, e. g. a basin, to a pumping station which transports the waste water through closed pipelines to a purification plant. Because of operating requirements the level in the collecting channel has to be controlled depending on the strongly varying waste water stream. For calculation of this control a mathematical model was determined which contains mainly linear lumped elements. Especially the dynamic behavior of the channel stream, which is determined exactly by nonlinear partial differential equations, was described in a vary simplified version. Yet experimental investigations justified the performed assumptions.
