Heterogeneous Oxidizing Catalysis in Hydrocarbon Refining Processes.

A survey of works dealing with heterogeneous catalytic oxidation of hydrocarbons is presented. By the character of the products obtained, oxidizing reactions are divided into two groups. The first comprises the reactions leading to the formation of compounds with oxygen-containing of compounds with oxygen-containing functional groups (e. g. , the reactions of oxidation of olefins to aldehydes, ketones, acids). The second group embraces reactions producing compounds not containing oxygen (e. g. , reactions of oxidizing dehydration of hydrocarbons). The methods to enhance the activity and selectivity of the catalysts are discussed. Advantages of the processes of oxidizing dehydration of hydrocarbons are shown. Application of oxidizing heterogeneous catalysis to the processes of purification of gaseous emissions from carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and sulfur-containing compounds is considered.
