A general description of the Los Azufres Geothermal field in Mexico is presented. The distribution of the wells, the chemistry of the brine and the gas content in the steam are shown in several tables and figures. The actual programs for construction of portable and central power plants are indicated. A brief comparison is made between Cerro Prieto and Los Azufres to provide a base for a discussion about the peculiarities of Los Azufres, located in a volcanic zone. A table with the costs of the geothermal development in this field is presented. Finally, some remarks are made about the economical convenience of using portable, back-pressure (noncondensing) power plants.
