The situation at Stocznia Gdynia appears very healthy, with a relatively optimistic future ahead. Some of the influences on container ship design at the shipyard are: increase in required service speed; increase stability and deadweight demands as a result of greater box weights and special numbers of reefer containers; and influence of more reefer containers on alternator power, ventilation system and stowage patterns. The shipyard has revised its designs of 70,000 dwt and 46,000 dwt classes. These now include the latest IACS requirements for the hull structures, while the bulkheads, bottom and shell plating has been strengthened to withstand hold flooding, especially when carrying ore cargoes in alternate holds and to avoid bulkhead collapse.
