A description is presented about the development of high strength steels based on the transformation in very low-carbon bainite and utilizing consequently three strengthening mechanisms: grain refinement, precipitation hardening and increased dislocation density. The transformation and recrystallization characteristics can be controlled by silicon and alloying elements such as niobium, titanium, and vanadium so that an efficient thermomechanical treatment in the instable austenite region can take place at relatively low temperatures.
