The corrosion of nickel alloy E1437B in lithium after aging has an intercrystallite character and takes place by virtue of the dissolution of nickel and chromium from the surface, the dissolution of chromium-impoverished zones around the chromium carbides, and the separation of whole grains. For dissolution from the surface and around the carbides, the time dependence of the corrosion losses is linear. When whole grains undergo separation as well, this linearity is broken. The corrosion losses are determined by the specific surface of the carbide phase and also by its morphology.
