The growing use of shotcrete in tunnels and shafts is encouraging engineers to look closely at ways of ensuring that the applied lining meets its specification. The paper suggests some control techniques based on extensive use of shotcrete on the Kabburu Hydro-electric Development in Kenya. Among the topics covered are principles of application and support, materials and properties, inspection and testing, quality control, safety, and others.
