摘要：
The Center for Iron and Steelmaking Research (CISR) was recently established at Carnegie-Mellon University. Due to the severe economic conditions affecting the American steel industry, there has been a decrease in the resources available for research. To alleviate the difficiency in basic research, steel companies have organized cooperative ventures. Currently, there are eight on-going research programs. They are divided into three categories: Ironmaking, Refining, and Casting.
