摘要
The Environmental Protection Act 1990 required that emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from gravure and flexo printers be reduced to specified levels by 1st December 1998. It is estimated that over 50% of companies have yet to comply with the regulations. Most companies affected have considered switching to water based or ultraviolet (UV) curing inks and found out that these options does not satisfy their production or product performance needs. Oxidation and biotechnology are the two possible candidate for VOC abatement to satisfy production performance needs. The principles behind the application of oxidation and biotechnology in application to inks are discussed.
