A practical method of operating an injection-locked system of flashlamp-pumped dye laser was studied with interest in its utility in narrow bandwidth operation. Instead of tuning the cavity resonances to the wavelength of injected cw dye laser, the present method monitors the resonant cavity mode with injected light, and fires the flashlamp at the proper instant for mode-matched situation. In this manner, the pulsed laser oscillations locked with high efficiency to the radiation of narrow bandwidth of down to 15 MHz which was limited by the thermal influence on cavity resonances.
