ORGANIZING FOR ENERGY CONSERVATION.

Like many other companies, Goodyear has sometimes been caught between the dual goals of energy conservation and pollution control. A few years ago, one plant switched its boiler operation from coal to oil, at a cost of 350,000, to reduce smoke and sulfur emissions. Last year, however, oil shortages forced the plant to convert the boiler back to coal, at an additional cost of 120,000. Now the company has instituted a coordinated, worldwide planning program for energy conservation.
