摘要
According to the phase diagram of lithium niobate (LN) a decomposition of congruently melting LN with segregation of a niobium rich phase LiNb3O8 (L3N) has been observed. It occurs at the surface and at defects within the LN crystals at temperatures significantly higher than 300 °C. L3N crystals grow epitaxially towering the wafer surface and decorating defects within the bulk. Thus a niobium (NbLi) diffusion besides the lithium (LiLi, Livac) diffusion out of the bulk and at the surface is concluded. Moreover, shallow grooves surrounding the L3N segregation at the surface indicate a NbNb diffusion only at the surface and along crystal defects. Niobium (NbLi) diffusion pathways in the lattice are discussed.
