Most applications for copper-base alloys in the marine field are dependent on corrosion resistance. Copper remains the most effective anti-fouling agent for painting ships' hulls, but this may be replaced by hulls sheathed with 90/10 cupro-nickel to provide corrosion and fouling resistance which is of interest because of escalating fuel costs.
