Riverwood reports 2Q gains

The net sales of Riverwood International Corp., Atlanta, were up by 1.7 percent in the second quarter of 2000 leading to earnings of $84.9 million. The increase was attributed to higher volumes in the beverage and carton markets, and improved carton pricing. The company expected growth in the folding carton market but was pessimistic about the beverage volume shortfall prospects. Earnings of $5.3 million were reported in the company's containerboard segment. The future policy of the company included the shifting of linerboard production to value-added coated board production.
