Quality crisis: we can't measure what we make

There is a very basic deficiency in manufacturing that has a profound impact on quality. The crisis is that the shape of parts manufactured cannot be controlled because our measuring requirements are inadequate. That's the consensus of a self-chosen task force of metrologists trying to resolve this basic crisis in measurement. Called the National Standards Educators Association (NSEA), they are trying to convert manufacturing engineers to quality measurements through geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
