摘要
As a result of an extensive and closely monitored test program administered by NASA-MSFC and performed by USBI, a significantly improved adhesive system will be used for bonding neoprene foam rubber seals to forward skirt SRB structures. Advantages of the toughened cyanoacrylate adhesive system include fast cure time, rapid application, simplified positioning of the seal to a complex geometry, elimination of costly and time-consuming repairs, use of safe and nonflammable adhesive and accelerator, and reduction in inventory and cost of adhesive with enhanced shelf life of stored materials. Improvement in adhesive bond reliability coupled with reduced processing time and material costs helps NASA enhance the flow of critical flight hardware for the space shuttle program.
