摘要：
The use of plastic optical fibre (POF) as the communications material in the automotive industry was discussed. Optical communication systems transmit digital information by means of pulses of light. A digital electric signal was used to modulate a light source such as light emitting diodes (LED) or vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL). The system with POF cables became field serviceable, as each individual cable could be repaired or replaced.
