摘要
Severe coastal pollution problems are evident in many local areas and regional pollution problems have become obvious in recent years in the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas. This paper focuses on those aspects of marine pollution that are most likely to be detected in coastal regions and to be problems in developing countries. It first considers the characteristics of coastal and open ocean areas that can influence the behavior of waste materials. This paper then discusses some selected contaminants, including petroleum hydrocarbons, industrial chemicals, synthetic organic compounds, toxic metals, waste liquids and solids, sewage sludge, industrial wastes, and waste materials as environmental tracers.
