The modeling of mechanical systems by multibody systems is described. The possibilities of achieving a kinematic position description are systematically investigated. The calculation of the impressed forces and moments acting on the bodies of the system is presented. With the aid of mechanical principles the equations of motion are formulated and the corresponding equations of state are presented. The symbolic calculation of the equations of motion with the aid of a digital computer is made possible by a newly developed method of symbol manipulation. This method is based on the FORTRAN programming language, possesses its own syntax and semantics, and is characterized by a process of index coding explained in detail.
