摘要：
The development and history of maritime communication from the inception of wireless to present Maritime Satellite (MARISAT) communications is presented. Also discussed is the Future Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (FGMDSS) which will make use of automatic computerized telecommunciations and shift the emphasis of safety from the present ship-ship system onto a ship-shore-ship system.
