Wear mechanism transition map of TZP ceramics under dry sliding

The tribological properties of TZP ceramics sliding against GCr15 bearing steel were investigated. By analyzing the wear surface and cross section, the wear mechanism transition map of TZP ceramics under dry reciprocating sliding was constructed. It was found that the mild wear and severe wear of the ceramics are related to plastic deformation with microcracking and surface fracture with abrasion wear respectively. At very high normal load and sliding speed, negative wear takes place due to steel transfer. In the whole sliding range the wear mechanism of GCr15 steel ball is plastic deformation and tribooxidation.
