The Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in conjunction with the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) has designed, developed, and delivered four high power neutral beam injection systems for application on the Princeton Large Torus (PLT). These beam lines have been designed to deliver a total of 3 MW of neutral beams for 300 ms at 40 keV to heat the tokamak plasma. Two of these beam lines have been used on PLT and during initial operations have injected up to 1 MW of neutral deuterium or hydrogen beams with the result that the ohmically heated plasma temperature of 900 eV was raised to 2. 2 keV.
