Research of IR distributed optical fiber temperature sensor system and its characteristics

Using the temperature effect of Raman scattering in optical fiber and the optical time domain reflection (OTDR) technique, IR distributed optical fiber temperature sensor system (IR-DOFTSS) was developed. In this system optical fiber is a transmission medium but also a sensitive medium. The system can sample 200 points in 1km optical fiber and locate the temperature measuring points. The main characteristics of the system were analyzed and discussed. The experimental results are: measurement range 0-130°C, measurement accuracy ±2°C, measurement resolution 0.1°C, space resolution of optical fiber coil probe 4cm, free optical fiber <10m, measurement time <40s.
