MMA and MIG/MAG welding are commonly used in engineering joints subject to fatigue loading. Bending fatigue strength with and without stress raisers has been evaluated using conventional and fracture mechanics approaches. Similar to the Soderberg diagram used in conventional safe life design, a fracture mechanics based diagram is proposed by the authors for conditions where a crack is already present in a component that is subjected to both alternating and mean stress.
