The US Bureau of Reclamation is restructuring as it struggles to re-align its policies away from large scale dam building to a more considered approach to water management and environmental restoration. It has had its 1995 budget cut by 12% and its workforce shrunk by around 900 to 6580, with the senior level managers halved in number. Conservation, demand management and water pricing are now the priority activities to meet the needs of a broader range of users, and to reduce impacts.
