Manufacturing execution systems (MES), a type of software application, can be seen as intermediate between plant-floor supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems on one hand, and enterprise resources planning (ERP) and supply chain management (SCM) systems on the other. The MES software gathers data from shop floors and uses it to track work-in-process, as well as determine labor, efficiency, and production status information. Flextronics, Americal, and Unifi are just some of the firms that use MES to streamline operations and manage growth.
