For the past three years the Roth timber construction works of Feldkirchen, Austria, has been active in multistory apartment building construction. The Wigo House builder E. Roth has led his firm to a pioneer role in Austria. As early as 1960 the company was the first to produce modular homes. In 1997, in Salzburg, Carinthïa, the company erected a 24-apartment building. This construction demonstrated the advantage of timber construction of short construction time, good space ventilation, and savings on resources. Then at the Neusiedler Lake the company built a residential vacation building at Jois Island. This consists of not less than 70 houses of which by the end of the year 40 units will have been supplied from Feldkirchen. With 30 more yacht houses to be built by the end of March 2001 this project will be completed. In Telfs, Tyrol, the company undertook one of the largest European row house projects made of timber. Wigo erected 26 apartments of low energy construction for the new settlement in the Tyrol. The construction elements were made at Feldkirchen and transported to and mounted at Telfs. The apartments of the 22 Schilling million project were completed in September and occupied in October. Wigo also built a two-story 20-apartment unit in Feldkirchen. About 3,000 timber houses have been built since 1960. The low energy Wigo timber house built in 2000 received the Carinthia State construction prize for 2000. Wigo now offers a standard construction series of modular homes. The two-story single family houses are offered in four ground plans and with extension variations. Other successes in timbered construction are described.
