The automatic video distortion analyzer UPF is a sophisticated piece of measuring equipment with a vast range of control and data-output facilities. To make full use of the data-processing and control capabilities it would normally be necessary to couple the unit to a powerful computer. But in a research department of the Hungarian PTT the UPF has been tested using only a low-cost desktop calculator (Hewlett Packard 97/S) in a novel application which is reported.
