摘要
The deployable port represents a radical departure from current port construction techniques. The port facilities are preconstructed on large (100 multiplied by 300 foot) floating barges. The barge modules are connected and anchored to form a port complex. Construction of the modules can be carried out in shipyards without tying up vital port operation areas. Once constructed, the modules can be installed in a matter of three to four weeks to replace or augment existing stateside port facilities. This article discusses how providing a less expensive, highly mobile alternative to permanent port facilities can achieve greater political and operational flexibility.
