NIH Director Wants to Speed Delivery of Biomedical Discoveries to the Bedside

The National Institutes of Health will speed its efforts in biomedical research by putting more emphasis and money into innovative, risky, interdisciplinary research that improves the clinical care of patients. The agency expects to spend about $2.1-billion on the new approach over the next six years. The money will come proportionately from all of the agency's 27 institutes and centers, with the director's office providing oversight.
