Forty-eight papers, including two abstracts, presented at this symposium deal with various aspects of the underground mining of coal. Volume I contains the papers presented at Symposium sessions on degasification and methane control, machinery modification, respirable dust monitoring and control, mine systems, explosion suppression, and fire control. Volume II of this book contains the papers presented at technical sessions on illumination and communication, roof control, noise reduction, mine waste disposal, and electrical systems. Selected papers are indexed separately.
