Modern Environmental Technology in Power Plants.

The desulfurization of flue gases emitted by large combustion plants has been practiced in the Federal Republic of Germany for many years. Various processes, all sufficiently tested, are available for use in large technology. Major significance is attributed to the process which uses lime or limestone as absorption agent and produces gypsum as end product. The reduction of nitric oxide in flue gases, in contrast, necessitates the application of new technologies. The majority of plant manufacturers utilize existing systems from Japan adapting this technology to the operating conditions of power plants in the Federal Republic, which differ in certain decisive areas from their Japanese counterparts.
