Just-in-time (JIT) scheduling has become synonymous with the efficient use of manufacturing resources - making or buying only what is needed to meet immediate production needs. Three companies have demonstrated the advantages of flexible controls and multiple workstations for arc welding operations. One is a high-volume manufacturer that produces small batches of many differnt kinds of parts. This compnay purchased a new robotic arc welding system specifically to implement JIT. The other two companies were primarily concerned with economic small batch production.
