A new computer aided method has been proposed for the prediction of the hardness distribution across round bar sections after hardening. In order to measure and record the real quenching intensity a special probe was used. A gauge-specimen was used in order to measure the resultant hardness distribution on the cross-section. The Jominy hardenability curve for respective steel grades and the measured hardness values have been stored in a microcomputer's memory. The prediction of the hardness distribution on the cross sections of different diameters is based upon the regression analysis of the Crafts-Lamont-Diagrams and the proportions found by Just. The results of the prediction have been compared with hardness distributions obtained by experiment.
