Pulping - (potentially)

The pace of pulp design and development are influenced by three interrelated factors: the availability and properties of raw materials; the development of new pulping technologies; and the development of new end products of paper, board and tissue companies. The biggest obstacle to producing more designer pulps may be in the size of new fiber lines. According to Bertil Stromberg, director of technology for cooking and diffuser washing processes at Andritz-Ahlstrom, the move to large single-line pulp mills is a trend somewhat counter to the trend towards specialized pulps. It increases the difficulty of production, especially during short production runs.
