摘要：

The normal modes of free oscillations of the earth may be interpreted in terms of surface waves. The set of eigenfrequencies for the earth's oscillations as identified by F. Gilbert and A. M. Dziewonski is used to obtain the dispersion curves for the surface wave phase velocities. These are compared to global surface wave data furnished by a standard earth model.
