The quality of a self-fluxing sinter made with concentrates of Baotou iron ore, which is characterized by its fluorine, potassium and sodium content, was very poor. After 1976, when the high-basicity sinter process was adopted, the cold and thermal strengths and the reducibility of the sinter were improved markedly, but the problem of wall accretion still remained. To solve this problem, laboratory experiments with dolomite additions were conducted. In 1980, an industrial experiment on sintering with high basicity and high magnesia content was conducted in the sinter plant. The results indicated that, when the magnesia content of the sinter reached 3-4%, a change in the mineral composition of the sinter occurred; the softening and melting temperatures of the sinter increased about 50 degree C and 55 degree C, respectively. In addition, the low-temperature reduction disintegration rate decreased 63. 8%, and the high-temperature reducibility was also improved.
