Powder metallurgy has enabled a range of oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) platinum-based alloys to be produced on a commercial scale as electrodes in test equipment, thermocouples, special electrical contacts, and other applications. The authors discuss the production of ODS platinum alloys, their high temperature properties, and recent new applications.
