The 4660 telex and low speed data switching exchange has been the subject of a previous article in Systems Technology (n 16 p 20, April 1973). This article describes, in more detail, the system architecture and software operation of the switch. Particular reference is made to the design philosophY which allows expansion of the line capacity from a minimum of a few hundred to a maximum of thirty-two thousand subscribers or trunks, without loss of service. A large telex exchange based on this design, the St Botolph's international gateway exchange in London, is now ready for service.
