A plate waveguide heater has been developed for drying low moisture content vegetable products and felt blankets made of aluminum silicate. The microwave system is described and other applications are considered, for flake and powder materials. By careful design of the rectangular waveguide applicators, material can be fed through the region of high electric field strength for heating without launching higher waveguide modes. In one case a T-junction is used as the central feed to the rectangular applicator; dry loads and suppressor plates are used at the material input and output ports in this case.
