AKD surface sizing of wheat straw base handsheet

AKD surface sizing of wheat straw base handsheet was carried out in the lab. These results showed that the Cobb value could achieve 26.7 g/m2 when 0.077% of AKD was absorbed. The addition of CS, PAE or CPAM in the AKD solution could enhance the efficiency of AKD surface sizing. The Cobb value of the handsheets increased to some extent while PAE or CPAM was added in the pulp, and the Cobb value increased apparently when 20% GCC or PCC, especially PCC was added in the pulp. The Cobb value increased from below 35.0 g/m2 to above 100 g/m2 when 0.33% alum was added into surface sizing solution.
