摘要：
The Merritt catalytic compression-ignition engine is currently undergoing development at the Coventry Polytechnic. It is based on a new combustion system promising the benefits of the broad speed range and low pressure injection associated with a spark ignition engine, together with a fuel economy better than that of the diesel cycle. The MCC unit operates on the Otto constant volume cycle at high compression ratios yet with gasoline at very low octane number and can be designed as either a 2- or a 4-stroke engine.
