DISPERSION OF FLEXURAL WAVES IN AN ELASTIC CIRCULAR CYLINDER.

In an earlier paper, Pao constructed the imaginary branches of Pochhammer's frequency equation for flexural waves in a solid circular cylinder with the aid of a grid of bounds and barriers. Using a different technique, some of these branches were reinvestigated by the present author with his primary interest in constructing the corresponding complex branches and to show that the complex branches emerged from the frequency extrema (relative maxima and minima) of the real and the imaginary branches. During the course of this investigation it was found that Pao's results for the imaginary branches were not satisfactory near these frequency extrema.
